COVID-19 Update

Unfortunately the rest of our Spring Semester events have been canceled due to CDC recommendations and best practices for flattening the curve. Updates will be forthcoming as more knowledge is available.

Alpha Phi Sigma HQ has announced a possibility of closure, but is still currently processing membership applications and honor regalia orders. Follow our updates on the GroupMe, and email any officers if you are a new or prospective member who hasn’t yet been added to the group.

For now, stay safe, follow CDC guidelines and Ball State University’s updates, and look after each other and yourselves.

2018-2019 Year in Review

The Beta Sigma Upsilon Chapter achieved quite a number of accomplishments from this past academic year. First, we were able to grow our chapter by 10 new members! We are excited to welcome so many new members to our chapter, and these members have already made a positive impact in the chapter by bringing their ideas and wonderful work ethic to the chapter.

One of the exciting events that our chapter assisted in was to invite Officer Tommy Norman of North Little Rock, Arkansas (and of social media renown) to campus to talk about his empathetic and holistic approach to community-oriented policing. In partnership with the Multicultural Alliance in Criminal Justice (MACJ) student organization from the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Ball State University, our chapter’s students assisted in providing a campus tour for Officer Norman, a meeting with the University Police Department, a student lunch and dinner, and a campus-wide talk where Officer Norman was able to speak to a full house of students of a multitude of majors and minors.

Our chapter’s members also rallied together to host a drive for A Better Way Muncie, a not-for-profit agency that provides support for those in any form of crisis (such as mental health crises, trauma, and domestic or intimate partner violence). A Better Way Muncie also provides shelter services for survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence. Within a month and a half, we collected 330 individual items donated to support A Better Way Muncie! This was due largely to chapter members promoting and spreading the word throughout campus, and the generosity of students, faculty, and staff. We are incredibly happy to have hosted such a successful drive to the benefit of A Better Way Muncie and everyone who benefits from their indispensable services.

As the new advisor of our chapter, I’ve been repeatedly impressed by our members’ dedication to community service and to involving the entire campus community in education regarding our criminal justice system. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished this year, and look forward to many more.
